The SmartBall
Proper shooting requires the player to accomplish a complex series of accute movements. The SmartBall is designed to simplify this process, while at the same time reducing the learning curve. Embossed in excellent detail are the necessary steps to execute a shot properly. These include: proper hand alignment and placement, color coding that depicts the areas where the hand should be in contact with the ball, as well as helpful reminders for reference as you practice. This ball is like nothing before. Coupled with the included training video, and the Perfect Shooting Poster, The SmartBall will change your shooting for good.
Training Video
Included in The SmartBall Shooting System is a training video. Watch as Ed Palubinskas shows you the techniques that have allowed so many players of all levels of ability to achieve 90% accuracy, and more, from the free throw line! Follow Ed through his 15 steps to "smart" shooting, including:
1. The Palubinskas Perfect Shooter’s Triangle: A scientific means of ensuring correct alignment and form, which directly correlates to proper shot direction and control.
2. Perfect Follow Through: Consistency and efficiency are the result of mastering mechanics. Here Ed shows how proper launch angle, and full extension of the arm and hand are paramount in producing a fluid shot.
3. Guide Hand: Believe it or not, the guide hand, or off hand, while intended to do nothing more than stabilize the ball before the shot, is hugely reponsible for a great number of missed shots.
4. Angle of Release: Launch angle is very important. Optimum launch angle is approximately 45 degrees, with an allowable range of 42 to 48 degrees. Remember: (launch angle=angle of entry); Poor trajectory will always result in poor entry.
5. The "Zombie:" Despite the playful name, this drill clearly conveys the form of a discipline shooter. You'll have some fun with this one!
6. The 6" Shot: Involving three main joints, a great shot requires only 6" of movement from each. Talk about efficiency!
7. Pre-shot Routine: Too many players waste energy before shooting, with irrelevant tenedencies. Finding a simple routine, that helps you to line up--shoulders square to the goal--and prepare for a good shot, is all you need to do.
8. Catch and Shoot Principle: Always recieve the ball as if you were readying for a shot. Proper ball-hand alignment is depicted on the SmartBall's cover. Whether picking up your dribble, or recieving a pass, always align both hands properly on the ball.
9. Forearm Lift: When lifting the ball into what Ed call the "shot pocket" it is imparitive that a player does so in a perfectly aligned fashion. Incorrect forearm position will cause a negative chain of events.
10. Speed of Ball Release: Form effects function. The velocity of the ball after release is a direct result of proper mechanics during launch. If the mechanics are not sound, ball speed will suffer.
11. The Pause Principle: A pause in a basketball shot is ideal, just as in a golf swing. One should be able to clearly read a logoed basketball at the apex of the "shot pocket." This pause is a reflection of tempo and power.
12. Square Up Principle: Simply put, the more square your feet are the the basket, the more apt your shoulders are to follow.
13. Eye-Rim-Ball Relationship: Players who transfer their attention from the rim to the ball immediately after release are at a great advantage. Not only does watching the ball result in shot feedback, but it also enables the shooter to predict the point of rebound sooner on a missed shot.
14. The Jump Shot: A jump shot should always be executed in the same way as a standing free throw. The obvious difference is that this shot is executed in the air. Mechanics are no less important!
15. Shot Height Principle: From the free throw line, the ball should rise as high as the top of the backboard. Every step back from there, shot height should increase by one to two ball widths.
16. Missed Shot Feedback: The best coach every player has is themselves. Once the SmartBall Shooting System is implemented, it should become evident to a shooter, what is causing their missed shots. This system teaches accountability, or, the ability to determine what aspect of each shot is poor.
Ed will take you in depth on all of these lessons, and show you how they can really impact your success as a shooter. It is a must see!
