Theresa Grentz: Effective High / Low Post Player Moves

Theresa Grentz: Effective High / Low Post Player Moves

DVD
with Theresa Grentz,
former University of Illinois Head Women's Coach

Whether it's coaching the US Olympic team or winning a national championship, when there's a job to be done, the Grentz name has been synonymous with success. Coach Grentz begins her presentation talking about her thoughts on stance. Knowing where you are as a player around the lane is important. The low post is for power and strength, the mid-post is finesse and the high post is for high skills. Floor markings, hands, balance and a squared stance to the ball are other important elements she touches on. When catching in the post players are instructed to step back toward the basket with the baseline foot. Without a dribble, the player can get to the basket with one big step. The next move is the dribble drop move. Grentz feels that high post play has many options. Back door cuts are dangerous from the high post to cutting wings. Players are encouraged to face up in the high post to shoot or drive. In this demonstration clinic setting, coaches from the audience ask questions as Grentz uses players to explain and demonstrate. Post players need only three moves to be effective in the low to mid-post area. These moves are illustrated from the high and low post on this DVD. This presentation is an excellent DVD for fundamental development of post players at all levels.
