With Bill Self,
Kansas University Head Coach
Coach Self shares dozens of his tips, techniques, and drills for making each of your players a stronger defender in this
presentation at the 2003 Championship Basketball Clinic. Principles of defending on ball screens, stopping middle penetration,
and closing out on the baseline, shell drills (and drills to teach players how to respond to screens), post entry, and defensive
breakdowns are all discussed and diagrammed. Self shares the basic movements required when playing man-to-man, how to guard the
ball in full- and half-court situations, key aspects of man defense including defending the post, back doors and flash cuts and
how to defend screens on the ball and off the ball. Coach Self teaches the drills and team communication necessary to slow
offenses down, take away penetration, and create turnovers. He also provides excellent instruction on help side and post defense. 75 minutes. 2003.
