NBA on Christmas

Each year on Thanksgiving the great people of our country do two things, eat and watch football.  It’s a tradition and a great one that the players may not love but they go along with it.  They get a national audience and have their game done for the week, giving them the rest of the weekend off to be with their families and loved ones.  I love watching the NFL on Thanksgiving each year and hope that never goes away.  I’m also glad we’ve never had someone spout off about it and sound so ungrateful.

Phil Jackson recently came out against playing games on Christmas.  I get it, but I don’t agree.  In my job I get Christmas day off to spend with my family and it’s a great thing for me.  I realize that some in the NBA have to play on Christmas and I don’t really feel for them.  It sounds very ungrateful to me.  The NBA players have arguably one of the best jobs in America.  They make millions of dollars to play a game where they get paid regardless of how they perform.  If Kobe shows up on Saturday and puts up a zero he still gets his game check.  If I show up to work and put up a zero I lose my job.  I dont’ have a guaranteed contract at all especially one that is long term.  Phil needs to really see the job for what it is and that is a blessing.  Very few guys have to play on Christmas and that’s not the part I have issues with.  I understand they would rather be at home, but we want the NBA on Christmas to be like the NFL on Thanksgiving and they are making it very hard for us to feel for them.  Act the part even if you don’t really believe it but act the part because it is your job and one that we pay good money to watch.  If we don’t watch then your job goes away.

Don’t forget to put on a good show this Saturday for us.
