Basketball players today tend to be too focused on improving their game with a ball in their hands. Workouts are almost all centered around improving one's game while handling the ball. However, the most difficult player for a defender to guard on the floor is not just someone who is a threat with the ball in their hands, but someone who is a threat when the ball is not in their hands.
Anyone can guard the opposition off the ball when the player simply stands in one spot. An offensive player that does not cut, screen, or react to the position of the basketball is a defender's best friend. But ask anyone who has ever played the game, especially at a high level, and they will tell you that the toughest player to guard is one that is constantly moving away from the ball; cutting, screening, receiving screens, re-positioning, and crashing the offensive glass.
The crew at Better Basketball knows this and understands that scoring without the ball is often an under-used and neglected offensive skill. That is why we bring you Scoring Without the Ball.
It will increase your overall basketball IQ and teach you skills that most players didn't know existed.

Chapter 1 opens with Coach Torbett explaining how to get free from a defender and get open when you are one pass away. It begins with the basics of getting open and then expands to show you how to attack the defense once the ball is in your hands. Coach demonstrates the 17 moves you can use to get open and score on the defense. There is even a bonus section on finishing at the end of Chapter 1!
In Chapter 2, you will learn how to play the game when on the weakside of the floor. This is an area of the game where offensive players tend to stand in one spot, unprepared to receive the basketball and attack the defense. Coach Torbett teaches you how to position yourself in the best location to receive the ball, how to read your defender and react to the situation, how to handle poor skip passes and turn them into a positive, and much more!
Chapter 3 will teach you how to attack immediately after making a pass. The tendency for many players after they make a pass is to exhale and stand for a moment. But often times, this is the best time to move or cut for the ball because your defender either relaxes or is trained to jump to the ball.
In Chapter 4, Coach Torbett walks you through every single detail of a fast break situation. He will explain where to position yourself on the floor, when to cut to the basket, when to dribble the basketball and countless other pieces that are essential to executing a successful fast break. The second half of Chapter 4 is devoted to teaching you what a slasher is and how you can become a threat at slashing on the floor.
In Chapter 5, Coach Torbett explains how to take advantage of a teammate's dribble penetration. Obviously, the best case scenario is that your teammate gets an open lane to the basket and is able to score an easy lay-up. However, anyone who has played the game at any level understands that this is rarely the end result. More often than not, a defender (or 2) off the ball will collapse and help a teammate who has been beat. If one of these help defenders happens to be your defender, what do you think you should do? That question is exactly what Coach Torbett will address in this chapter. He will teach you how best to react to your teammate's penetration and your defender's help so that you can be in the ideal position to receive a pass and score the basketball.
Chapter 6 explains how to properly set a ball screen and the different things you can do to create a scoring opportunity for yourself after the screen is set. Should you roll to the basket? Should you pick n' pop to the perimeter? Should you slip the screen altogether and dive to the rim? All of these questions and more will be answered for you in Chapter 6.
The DVD wraps up with Chapter 7, a detailed and advanced explanation of how to score in off the ball screen situations, both as the screener and the receiver. Understanding how to read the defense in these types of situations will make you a much bigger threat to score the basketball.
True to form, this Better Basketball DVD finishes with exclusive bonus sections, available only through the purchase of "Scoring Without the Ball". Bonus Section #1 features NBA All-Star and World Champion point guard Jason Kidd.
Coach Torbett has already covered every aspect of how to score without the ball. Now, listen as Jason speaks to you from a PG's perspective. Jason will explain what he wants his teammates to do when he has possession of the ball. He will talk to you about what it takes to become an elite PG, how to become an electric passer, how to score after feeding the post, and so much more! This is one bonus section you don't want to miss out on.
Bonus Section #2 features Hall of Famer and Olympian Nancy Lieberman. Nancy's credentials speak for themselves: 2-time Olympian, 2 collegiate National Championships, an MVP and a Championship at the professional level, a champion head coach, an ESPN analyst, and a Hall of Famer (1996 inductee). Nancy takes the time to teach you how to manage end of game situations, how to attack in a fast break situation, proper screening techniques, and much more!
With 5 players on the floor at once, the amount of time that you will actually hold possession of the ball is very short, especially if you are not the PG or primary ball-handler. This is a fact that is easy to ignore when it comes time to hone your skills on the court, but the question remains; what will you do during that time when you don't have the ball? That question is exactly why Better Basketball has invested over a year's time in creating this DVD. "Scoring Without the Ball" is absolutely essential for anyone who wishes to take their game to the next level and reach their potential as a basketball player. The ideas and techniques taught in this video cannot be found anywhere else on the market today.
